A reflection on the resurrection, 1 Thess 4:13-17

no loss at all

 “This way, please,” the angel urges,

shaking your all too tangible elbow,

an arm now filled with incomparable vigor,

fine hairs alit from finer glory within,

senses that bear the brilliance and the trumpet.

 

Ascending, the way grows steadily busier,

ancients intermingling with moderns,

myriads in togas and loincloths and business suits,

shouting and marveling, each tongue a known one,

every word and tonal and click with ease deciphered.

 

Church members, martyrs, children, great-great-greats,

better known than during life, shout greetings

Yet the fascination is not on the radii, but on the center,

the focus is not geometrical but personal, the one like a Son of Man:

You lost nothing by dying in Him.

Los títulos valen lo que valen

He conocido varias personas sin títulos académicos…

Una persona, quizás un pastor, quizás no ha tenido la oportunidad de estudiar. Sin embargo, se esfuerza para leer, estudiar, buscar conocimiento sobre la Palabra. No tiene título, sin embargo, no desprecia la persona que tiene. Entiende lo que sabe y lo que no sabe. Tiene todo mi respeto.

La otra persona, no ha estudiado por una razón u otra. Quizás tiene oportunidades, pero no se ha aprovechado. No tiene título, y se cae en la tentación de rechazar el valor de títulos. Menosprecia la persona con uno, implicando que la persona por definición es carnal, que no tiene el Espíritu, que no sabe nada del camino del Señor. Esta persona me deja perplejo.

El autor Esopo entendió este punto y lo explicó en su fábula de la Zorra y las Uvas: Estaba una zorra con mucha hambre, y al ver colgando de una parra unos deliciosos racimos de uvas, quiso atraparlos con su boca. Más no pudiendo alcanzarlos, se alejó diciéndose: ¡Ni me agradan, están tan verdes…!

Pero aun mejor algo de la Palabra Santa: Prov 18:2 DHH – “El necio no tiene deseos de aprender; solo le importa presumir de lo que sabe.”

Mateo 24:36 – “Pero en cuanto al día y la hora, nadie lo sabe”

Una cosa que me interesa es la enseñanza de la Biblia sobre:

• lo que sabemos y lo que no sabemos sobre la venida de Cristo,
• o sea, lo que podemos saber, lo que NO podemos saber

 Antes de ir al texto principal, empecemos con Apoc 19:11. Es algo más sencillo que Mateo 24, sobre qué podemos saber, qué no podemos saber.

 Apoc 19:11-12 Luego vi el cielo abierto, y apareció un caballo blanco. Su jinete se llama Fiel y Verdadero. Con justicia dicta sentencia y hace la guerra. Sus ojos resplandecen como llamas de fuego, y muchas diademas ciñen su cabeza. Lleva escrito un nombre que nadie conoce sino sólo él.

 Es decir, tiene un nombre inscrito y nadie lo conoce. Este nombre es más allá de “Jesús”, “Fiel y Verdadero” y luego en el v. 16, “Rey de reyes y Señor de señores.” Hay otro nombre inscrito que “nadie conoce sino sólo él”.

Bring Him the Sacrifice of…Paint

It’s Friday afternoon. I just got done showering off some layers of paint. What I thought would be a straight roller job turned out to take several days, but it was specifically to God’s glory!

You see, in November, the Lord very definitely answered my prayer and allowed us to bring in some needed funding for ESEPA. When the news arrived, I thanked him for it, but also decided to look around for a more formal way to offer thanks.

The sacrifice of praise, certainly a must. Thanksgiving in prayer. Giving testimony to others. Yes and yes. But what else?

Mary’s Magnificat, Luke 1

Luke 1 the Magnificat One day in January, before sunrise, about 4 in the morning, while our neighborhood is totally quiet, we’re going to hear people out in the street…our bedroom overlooks the sidewalk, so they’ll probably wake us up. They’ll draw near our house, go under our window and then pass by to walk up and down the streets…and they’ll be talking. Pretty soon we’ll make out that they’re praying to the Virgin Mary:

The leader will say: Dios te salve María, llena de gracia, el Señor está contigo, bendita eres entre las mujeres y bendito el fruto de tu vientre, Jesús.

The group will respond: Santa María, madre de Dios, ruega por nosotros pecadores, ahora y en la hora de nuestra muerte.

They’ll be dedicating our neighborhood to the Virgin Mary for the year 2010.

El Nuevo Testamento el Código Real – ¿La versión auténtica?

Se está malinformando a los creyentes latinoamericanos que por primera vez, podrán leer el Nuevo Testamento auténtico…y que todas las demás versiones castellanas son falsas. En el Código Real, D.A Hayyim dice que lo publicó para que por fin se corrigiera la Biblia.

A few weeks ago, someone sent an email among us professors of ESEPA Bible College and Seminary in Costa Rica to ask, had anyone heard of a Hebrew-Spanish New Testament known as the “Código Real” (the “Royal Code of Laws”; not to be confused with the Hebrew Roots Bible or the Hebraic New Testament)? He said that its message was being taught in some rural churches in our country, and that pastors were asking questions. When I first looked up the two websites that promote the material (one by Maor Hayyim Publishing in Florida, the other www.codigoreal.com), I became seriously alarmed. Nonetheless, a theologian should not rush to judgment, even when he senses that a great danger might be at hand. But now my copy of the Código Real (CR) has come in the mail; I can speak in an informed manner. It is only available in Spanish, so I will translate.

Is the “Código Real”, that is, the New Testament in the “Hebrew Text Version”, a legitimate translation? No; it is no more legitimate than the New World Translation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses is a real Bible.
